Dated back to Qing Dynasty (AD 1677), formerly known as “Chong Chong Cuang Temple”, Dongzhulin Temple is one of the Great Hall of the thirteen Lin Monastery. Additionally, In the late Qing Dynasty, there had been over 700 lamas and 10 Living Buddhas in this monastery. Overlooking the beautiful Jinsha River Gorge, Dongzhulin stands hundred meters high above the sea level. Besides, it has several “living” Buddhas and each year the Mask Dancing Ceremony attracts thousands of followers. Moreover, it houses lots of cultural heritage: gilded Maitreya , statue of White Drolma, Buddhas of Three Worlds, the ruler of the hell, Manjusri, 18 Arhats statues and Tangkar scroll paintings depicting Buddhist stories. Thus, you may see Dongzhulin Temple as a small stop along your journey to Tibet, which can greatly enhance your travel experience.

How to get there:

Usually, the first step is to take flights or land transportation to arrive in Shangri La city, the capital town of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, from which there are about more than 15 buses leave for or passing through Benzilan county where Dongzhulin Monastery is about 23 kilometers away from.

There is no direct public bus to this monastery from Benzilan, so you will have to use local minibus which usually charges RMB 30.00 per person one way
