This place is great and a must-visit if you want some great food and family atmosphere in Lhasa. It’s a local house and a local kitchen. My wife and I ate there one night and came back for cooking class to make some Tibetian food, then enjoy a good dinner. Highly recommend a visit.

I found this one in my guide book. Really happy I did! My young daughter likes to cook and whenever we can we like to try a local cooking experience. This is lovely little restaurant. When we arrived they showed us a menu and asked what we would like to make (this is a big deal because many cooking classes they have set plans). After we selected our meal – Yak Momo’s (think fried/steamed dumplings), fried chicken with peanuts (think chicken with cashews) and spinach and garlic – we were taken to the local market to pick up the missing ingredients. This allowed us to see a non touristy side of the old city. From there back to the restaurant where we began making the meal. We made dough for the momo’s, minced the yak for filling, cut the chicken, diced some pinions and celery. We then stuffed the momo’s and made the dumplings. Once complete we cooked the spinach and the chicken dish.

When complete we consumed the output of our labor and it was delicious.

We really enjoyed being with the family and having this unique Tibetan experience. The restaurant also has a rooftop area with a nice view of the old city.

I highly recommend this cooking class. You can also dine there without having to do the class, but not as much fun.

We came here for a cooking class and really got a chance to see the women here prepare many traditional Tibetan foods. We learned how to make a variety of dishes and then adjourned to the roof to get a view of Lhasa and eat the food we had just helped prepare. They make amazing Momo’s and the rest of their fare is quite delicious. We were big fans of the yak dishes and their vegetables were very flavorful. People have written messages to them inside from all over the world and its fun to read what people have written.

The bathroom is outside the front door and is quite basic. It was much better then most of the places we went to in Tibet, but still quite rustic.

We ate lunch here before heading to the square , this is located half a block from main entrance . The food was very tasty, prices reasonable . Loved the fried rice , husband liked the yak curry. Definitely convenient , owners speak good English

My daughter and I ate at the Tibetan Family Kitchen with a group of friends twice while visiting Lhasa in October 2019. For lunch we ate on the roof top where the sunlight was plentiful, the breeze was cool, the service was great, and the food was simply delicious. For dinner we ate inside. The service was great, and food was delicious again. I loved the yak noodle soup; my daughter loved the tomato soup and we both liked the yak momos. The menu was easy to read, English was spoken, and the restaurant was clean. Over the course of several days as I traveled through Tibet, I ate several bowls of yak noodle soup. The yak noodle soup at Tibetan Family Kitchen was hands down my favorite. Sometimes when you travel you run across food dishes that are so good and if money and time were no object you would return again. I live about 8,000 miles away from Lhasa but that was some seriously good yak noodle soup.
